WHAT IS A CONTINUOUS AIR MONITORING SYSTEM?

A continuous air monitoring system device that directs the ambient air across or towards a gas sensor, allowing the system to gather information more effectively and efficiently than an static ambient air monitor that only gathers information if the air is moving towards it. Continuous air monitoring systems are commonly employed to monitor and collect data on air quality, environmental conditions, and the presence of pollutants or contaminants in the air. They are essential tools for assessing and managing air quality on job sites where contaminants pose a risk to workers, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and protecting public health.

DOES AN ENGINE SHUT OFF SAVE FUEL?

Engine shut offs do not impact your fuel efficiency. Instead, having an engine shut off is a safety device that ensures your engine isn’t running in unsafe conditions where there’s a risk of explosions or diesel runaway.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ADVANCED LEAK DETECTION SOLUTIONS FOR THE GAS INDUSTRY?

Advanced leak detection solutions offer several significant benefits to the gas industry. Firstly, they enhance safety by quickly detecting potential flammable airborne hydrocarbons before they become an issue, reducing the risk of accidents, explosions, and environmental harm. Additionally, these solutions improve operational efficiency by minimizing facility gas loss and the associated financial losses. They also help companies comply with regulatory requirements which reduces the risk of fines and penalties.

HOW TO DETECT GAS LEAKS?

There are several ways that individuals can detect gas leaks. Gas detection systems like personal monitors and continuous gas monitors can allow you to detect gas leaks when you’re in the area. Personal monitors are ambient gas monitoring devices, which means they can only detect gas if the air is pointing towards them. Continuous gas monitors, on the other hand, have a pump to bring the air into the monitor and can detect gas leaks no matter which direction the air is moving. The ShockerEDGE turns your engine into a continuous air monitor by having the engine act as a pump to consistently check the air quality. Other ways to detect gas leaks that are less efficient and reliable include expensive infrared cameras, visual inspections, and listening for hissing or blowing sounds.

HOW DOES EXPOSURE TO NATURAL GAS AFFECT THE BODY?

Exposure to natural gas primarily affects the body as it can displace oxygen in enclosed spaces, leading to oxygen deficiency and potentially causing symptoms like dizziness, headache, nausea, fatigue, and in extreme cases, unconsciousness or death if oxygen levels drop significantly. High levels of exposure to gas can literally poison your body and lead to long lasting side effects. In addition, if there is a gas leak, the risk of fire or explosion exists, which can cause severe burns and injuries. Prompt evacuation and proper ventilation in case of a gas leak are crucial to mitigate these risks.

WHAT ARE THE SAFETY REQUIREMENTS FOR VEHICLES ON JOB SITES?

Safety requirements for vehicles on job sites vary depending on the state/provincial requirements, federal regulations, as well as the requirements of individual companies. For the most part, many job sites require diesel engines to have a positive air shut off valve; however, the ShockerEDGE has equivalency certificates to be used in place of a positive air shut off in Transport Canada B62 Regulated Industries. Other safety considerations to take for vehicles on job sites is to park certain distances away, keep your equipment up wind of gas, and ensure you’re keeping accountable with all your field safety checks.

CAN THE SHOCKEREDGE BE USED INSTEAD OF A POSITIVE AIR SHUT OFF VALVE?

Yes! The ShockerEDGE can be used in place of a positive air shut off valve. This is because the ShockerEDGE acts as a continuous air monitoring system that recalibrates every two seconds, making it incredibly accurate. If the EDGE detects any contaminants in the air that pose a safety risk, the EDGE will completely shut your engine down. The ShockerEDGE is a proactive safety device that shuts your engine off before it becomes an issue, unlike positive air shut off valves that are reactive.

WHAT ENGINES CAN USE THE SHOCKEREDGE?

The ShockerEDGE can be installed in any internal combustion engine. Headwind Solutions can custom design a ShockerEDGE for your specific engine and have it to you as soon as possible. If you’re interested in installing a continuous air monitoring system and engine shut off system all in one, try the ShockerEDGE.

DO JOB SITES REQUIRE USING A GAS DETECTOR ON VEHICLES?

Presently, many job sites only require shut off valves rather than gas detection on vehicles, and they instead require personal monitors. However, we ask you this: have you ever left your vehicle and had your personal monitor immediately tell you you were in danger? The answer is probably yes. By transforming your engine into a gas monitor with the ShockerEDGE, you will revolutionize personal safety of every team member.
